Digestive enzymes and their actions

Human digestive system · Biology

Study notes

Chew bread for a minute and it turns sweet — salivary amylase is converting starch to maltose in your mouth. If beans give you gas, it is because no human enzyme digests their raffinose; Beano tablets supply the missing alpha-galactosidase. Lactose-intolerant people lack lactase, so milk sugar ferments in their gut.
