Study notes

Let's take the Mustard flower (Family Brassicaceae). Step 1: Identify the sex. It is bisexual, so we write the symbol ⊕ (actinomorphic) and the bisexual symbol (⚥). Step 2: Write the Calyx (K). There are 2+2 sepals. Step 3: Write the Corolla (C). There are 4 petals. Step 4: Write the Androecium (A). There are 2+4 stamens. Step 5: Write the Gynoecium (G). There are 2 carpels, fused (indicated by a line underneath the G, showing superior ovary). The final formula is: ⊕ ⚥ K2+2 C4 A2+4 G(2). To draw the diagram, start with a dot for the stem, draw 4 sepals in two layers, 4 petals in a cross shape, 6 stamens (2 outside, 4 inside), and a 2-chambered ovary in the middle.
