Fungal reproduction and economic importance

Study notes
Let's trace the life of a bread mold (Rhizopus). Step 1: The fungus grows threads called hyphae on the bread. Step 2: It grows upright stalks called sporangiophores. Step 3: A balloon-like structure called a sporangium forms at the top. Step 4: Inside this balloon, hundreds of tiny asexual spores are made. Step 5: The balloon bursts, releasing spores into the air. Step 6: If a spore lands on a new piece of moist bread, it germinates, grows a new thread, and the cycle repeats.
