Transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide in blood
Human respiratory system · Biology
Study notes
During a sprint, your hard-working muscles produce CO2 and heat — both make haemoglobin release oxygen more eagerly (Bohr effect), delivering extra O2 exactly where it is needed most. At the same time, the CO2 is carried back mainly as bicarbonate in plasma, converted back to CO2 in the lungs by carbonic anhydrase.
