Study notes
Let's find out how much Copper (Cu) is deposited when 2 Amperes of current flows for 10 minutes. Step 1: Calculate the total charge (Q). Q = Current (I) × Time (t in seconds). Q = 2 A × 600 seconds = 1200 Coulombs. Step 2: Know the chemistry. Copper (Cu2+) needs 2 electrons to become solid Copper. 1 mole of electrons is 96,500 Coulombs (Faraday's constant). Step 3: Use the formula. Mass = (Atomic Mass × Q) / (n × 96500). Mass = (63.5 × 1200) / (2 × 96500). Step 4: Solve. 76200 / 193000 = 0.395 grams. So, 0.395 grams of copper will stick to the electrode.
