Study notes
Step 1: Start with Chlorobenzene (a benzene ring with a Cl atom). Step 2: Heat it with NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) at 623K and 300 atmospheric pressure. The OH group replaces the Cl atom. This creates Sodium Phenoxide (C6H5ONa). Step 3: Add Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) to the Sodium Phenoxide. The Na and Cl join to form Salt (NaCl), and the Hydrogen joins the oxygen to create Phenol (C6H5OH).
