Study notes
A patient wants whiter teeth but has front-tooth composite fillings. What limitation must be explained? Bleaching whitens natural tooth structure only — composite, ceramic and other restorations do not change shade. After bleaching, the old fillings will look darker by contrast and may need replacement to match. Students learn to examine existing restorations before promising whitening results, so expectations stay realistic.
