Study notes
On an extracted tooth, find the CEJ. Look at the neck of the tooth where the shiny white crown meets the duller, slightly yellow root surface. That smooth junction line is the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Above it is enamel; below it is cementum covering dentin. In a healthy mouth this line sits just under the gum edge.
