Study notes
A child with rice-water stools in a flood-hit village gets ORS continuously. Cholera (Vibrio cholerae — comma-shaped, toxin causing massive secretory diarrhea) kills by dehydration — ORS (or IV Ringer's in shock) is the treatment; doxycycline single-dose shortens illness. The cot, the bucket, the ORS — cholera management is rehydration logistics. Clean water and sanitation prevent; vaccine helps in outbreaks. The rice-water stool is the diagnosis — replace what pours out.
