Study notes

A child — fever, cough, Koplik's spots, then rash; measles; vitamin A given. Measles (3 C's — cough, coryza, conjunctivitis + Koplik's spots → maculopapular rash head-to-foot: vitamin A — prevents blindness; complications — pneumonia, encephalitis: MMR prevents). Mumps (parotid swelling — orchitis — infertility risk: MMR). Rubella (mild — congenital rubella — cataract, deafness, heart — MMR — vaccinate girls). Diphtheria (bull neck, adherent pseudomembrane — don't scrape — ADS antitoxin + penicillin + isolation). Pertussis (catarrhal → paroxysmal whoop → convalescent: macrolide — early; vaccinate — DPT). The Koplik's spot is measles — vitamin A is the treatment adjunct.
