Study notes

A child swallows toilet cleaner — alkali; no vomiting induced, milk given. Alkalis (liquefactive necrosis — deeper penetration) vs acids (coagulative — eschar limits depth): never induce vomiting (re-burns esophagus) — dilute with water/milk, urgent endoscopy to grade injury, steroids debated, strictures later. The bottle's label is the first toxicology — read it, call poison control, protect the airway. Corrosives burn twice if vomited — dilution, not emesis.
