Study notes
A ball is dropped from a height of 2 meters. After hitting the ground, it bounces back up to a height of 1.25 meters. Calculate the coefficient of restitution (e). Step 1: The formula relating height and coefficient of restitution is e = sqrt(h_final / h_initial). Step 2: Identify the values. h_initial = 2 m, h_final = 1.25 m. Step 3: Substitute the values into the formula. e = sqrt(1.25 / 2). Step 4: Perform the division. 1.25 / 2 = 0.625. Step 5: Take the square root of 0.625. sqrt(0.625) is approximately 0.79. Therefore, the coefficient of restitution is 0.79.
