Study notes
A transistor has β = 99. (a) Find α. (b) In CE with R_C = 3 kΩ and AC emitter resistance r_e' = 30 Ω, estimate the voltage gain magnitude. (c) Which configuration would you pick to drive an 8 Ω speaker from a high-impedance source? Solution: (a) α = β/(β+1) = 99/100 = 0.99. (b) |A_v| ≈ R_C/r_e' = 3000/30 = 100. (c) Common Collector (emitter follower) — its low output impedance can drive the 8 Ω load without loading the source; CE's high output impedance cannot.
