Study notes
Why can't an adult's retruded jaw be corrected with a functional appliance like a child's? Functional appliances work by modifying active growth — and adult growth is finished. In adults only tooth movement (orthodontics), tooth-position camouflage, or surgical jaw repositioning can address skeletal discrepancies. Students learn the adult boundary clearly: move teeth, don't expect the jaw to grow.
