Medical emergencies in oral surgery, sedation basics
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
A patient faints during an injection. What is the immediate sequence? Stop treatment, supine position with legs raised, oxygen, monitor vitals - vasovagal syncope from fear/pain recovers in minutes. Students learn the emergency order: position, oxygen, monitor, then diagnose - because most dental-office emergencies are syncope, and the treatment is gravity plus calm, not drugs.
