Study notes
Worked example - JK as a frequency divider. Take a JK flip-flop with J = K = 1 and a 1 kHz clock. Step 1: at each rising clock edge, J=K=1 toggles Q: 0->1->0->1... Step 2: Q completes one full cycle per TWO clock cycles, so fout = fclk/2 = 500 Hz. Step 3: chain three such stages: 1 kHz -> 500 Hz -> 250 Hz -> 125 Hz - a 3-bit ripple counter dividing by 8. This toggle-on-JK=1 behaviour is exactly why counters are built from JK (or T) flip-flops rather than SR.
