You resemble both parents but are identical to neither because crossing over shuffled their genes: imagine your mother's chromosome carrying genes A-B-C and your father's a-b-c — after crossing over between B and C, a chromatid may carry A-B-c, a brand-new combination neither parent had in that exact order.
