Study notes

Let us trace the life of a Pinus (Pine) tree: Step 1: The tree grows two types of cones. Male cones are small and produce yellow pollen dust. Step 2: Wind carries the pollen to the female cones. Step 3: The pollen enters a tiny hole in the female ovule. Step 4: Inside, the pollen fertilizes an egg cell to create a baby plant embryo. Step 5: The female cone scales close up tightly to protect the developing seed. Step 6: When the seed is mature, the scales open up. The seed has a little 'wing' to help it fly in the wind like a helicopter, landing far away to grow into a new tree.
