Economic importance of algae

Study notes
Let us trace how we get 'Agar' for a science experiment: 1. Harvesting: We collect specific red algae called Gelidium or Gracilaria from the sea. 2. Processing: These algae are boiled in water to extract a jelly-like substance. 3. Purification: The mixture is filtered and cleaned to remove bits of sand or salt. 4. Solidifying: Once it cools down, it turns into a firm, jelly-like solid. 5. Application: Scientists pour this onto a flat glass plate (petri dish). It becomes a solid bed where bacteria can be placed to study them, as the bacteria use the nutrients in the Agar to grow.
