Study notes

Bacteria in a flask trace the perfect J-curve — doubling every 20 minutes until nutrients crash, then dying en masse. Humanity's curve is still J-shaped (8 billion and climbing) — the demographic transition is our hoped-for S-bend. Yeast in wine vats follows logistic growth: booming, then slowing as alcohol (their own waste) poisons them — carrying capacity in a barrel.
