Structure of dicot and monocot seeds

Study notes
Let's follow a Bean seed (Dicot) as it wakes up: 1. You plant the seed in soil and add water. 2. The seed coat (Testa) softens and bursts. 3. The Radicle (baby root) pushes out first to anchor the plant and drink water. 4. Once it is firm, the Plumule (baby shoot) starts growing upwards towards the sky. 5. The two Cotyledons provide 'packed lunch' energy to the Plumule. 6. Once the stem reaches the surface, the Cotyledons wither away because the plant now has green leaves to make its own food via photosynthesis.
