Study notes
How to distinguish acetylene from ethylene using a chemical test? Step 1: Pass each gas through ammoniacal AgNO₃. Step 2: Acetylene (terminal alkyne, acidic H) → white ppt of AgC≡CAg. Step 3: Ethylene: no acidic H → no reaction. Step 4: Alternatively, Cu₂Cl₂/NH₃ → red ppt with acetylene only. Acidity test distinguishes!
