Study notes
An electron falls from n=3 to n=2 in hydrogen. Find the photon wavelength. Step 1: 1/λ = R(1/2² − 1/3²) = 1.097 × 10⁷ × (1/4 − 1/9). Step 2: (1/4 − 1/9) = 5/36 ≈ 0.1389. Step 3: 1/λ = 1.097 × 10⁷ × 0.1389 ≈ 1.524 × 10⁶ m⁻¹. Step 4: λ ≈ 656 nm — the red H-alpha line of the Balmer series.
