Catalysis: homogeneous, heterogeneous, enzyme catalysis

Why does MnO₂ speed up H₂O₂ decomposition without being consumed? Step 1: Uncatalysed: E_a ≈ 75 kJ/mol (slow at room T). Step 2: MnO₂ offers an alternative path: H₂O₂ adsorbs, O–O bond weakens. Step 3: New E_a ≈ 58 kJ/mol — rate jumps ~1000×. Step 4: MnO₂ regenerated at the end — a catalyst, not a reactant. Heterogeneous: solid catalyst, liquid/gas reactants.
