Study notes

Why does high fever impair enzyme function? Step 1: Enzymes work best near 37°C (optimum) — folded precisely. Step 2: High temperature breaks weak bonds (H-bonds, hydrophobic) holding the shape. Step 3: Active site distorts → substrate no longer fits → activity drops. Step 4: Denaturation: structure lost, function lost. That's why 42°C+ is dangerous!
