Study notes
Separate a mixture of benzoic acid and naphthalene. Choose the method. Step 1: Naphthalene sublimes (solid → vapour on heating); benzoic acid doesn't easily. Step 2: Heat the mixture gently — naphthalene vapours deposit as crystals on cool surface. Step 3: Benzoic acid stays behind. Step 4: Alternatively: NaHCO₃ dissolves benzoic acid (→ benzoate), naphthalene filtered. Two routes — pick by property!
