A student has 100 mL of water. She pours it into (a) a tall thin glass, (b) a wide bowl. What are the shape and volume in each? Step 1: Water is a liquid — fixed volume, no fixed shape. Step 2: Volume stays 100 mL in both containers. Step 3: In the tall glass, water takes a tall thin shape. Step 4: In the wide bowl, the same 100 mL spreads into a wide flat shape. Conclusion: shape changed, volume did not — classic liquid behaviour.
