Study notes
C₄H₁₀ has how many structural isomers? Draw them. Step 1: Straight chain: CH₃CH₂CH₂CH₃ (n-butane). Step 2: Branched: CH₃CH(CH₃)CH₃ (isobutane/2-methylpropane). Step 3: Any other skeleton? A 3-carbon chain with 2 methyls = same as isobutane. Step 4: Only 2 chain isomers. (C₅H₁₂ has 3; C₆H₁₄ has 5 — branching grows fast!)
