Study notes
Distinguish CH₃CH₂NH₂, (CH₃)₂NH, (CH₃)₃N using Hinsberg's reagent. Step 1: Add PhSO₂Cl (benzenesulfonyl chloride) + KOH to each. Step 2: CH₃CH₂NH₂ (1°): forms sulfonamide with acidic H → dissolves in KOH. Step 3: (CH₃)₂NH (2°): sulfonamide, no acidic H → insoluble in KOH. Step 4: (CH₃)₃N (3°): no reaction (no H on N). Three behaviours, three classes!
