Age estimation and forensic radiology basics
Oral Medicine and Radiology · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
An unidentified minor's age is disputed. How do teeth settle it? Dental development stages (Demirjian's A-H root formation on radiographs) correlate tightly with chronological age in childhood - more reliably than height or bone. Students learn the estimation ethic: report age ranges with confidence intervals, never false precision - because the report may decide criminal responsibility or asylum, and overstatement is injustice.
