Study notes
A biting force of 200 N acts on a filling with contact area 4 mm². What is the stress? Stress = Force/Area = 200/4 = 50 N/mm² = 50 MPa. Dental materials for back teeth must withstand such stresses repeatedly without cracking — this is why high-strength materials are chosen for molars.
