Study notes

A 45-year-old male presents with painful swelling in the right submandibular region during meals. Diagnosis: Sialolithiasis (salivary stone). Steps: 1. Palpate the floor of the mouth to locate the hard lump. 2. Take an occlusal radiograph to visualize the stone. 3. Prescribe Amoxicillin 500mg three times daily for 5 days to treat secondary inflammation. 4. Use a sialagogue (lemon juice) to stimulate flow. 5. If the stone is near the duct opening, perform a ductal meatotomy under local anesthesia (2% Lignocaine with 1:200,000 Adrenaline). Outcome: The stone is removed; patient regains normal salivary flow. Follow-up: Review in 7 days to ensure the duct remains patent.
