Protect an office: the firewall allows outbound web (ports 80/443) but blocks inbound except VPN port 1194. Remote workers connect via VPN: their traffic is encrypted to the office, then exits normally, so they work as if inside. An IDS watches for port scans and alerts. Three layers, one policy.
