Transfer Rs 1000 from A to B: debit A, credit B. If the system crashes between them without transactions, Rs 1000 vanishes. Wrapped in BEGIN...COMMIT, atomicity guarantees both happen or neither; durability guarantees the committed transfer survives the crash via the write-ahead log.
