Study notes

A 22-year-old student named Rahul comes to the hospital. He says his belly hurts very badly, especially on the lower right side. He also has a fever and feels like he wants to vomit. When the doctor presses on his belly, Rahul jumps because it hurts so much. The doctor notices that Rahul's belly muscles are very tight and hard (this is called 'guarding'). The doctor thinks that the Appendix (a small pouch attached to the intestine) has become very infected and has leaked, causing Peritonitis (inflammation of the peritoneum lining). The diagnosis is Acute Appendicitis with Peritonitis. Rahul is taken for surgery immediately to clean the infection.
