Sterilization and disinfection protocols
General Medicine and General Surgery (for BDS) · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
An autoclave runs without indicator strips. Why is this unacceptable? Without chemical/biological monitoring, sterilization is assumed, not verified - a failed cycle looks identical to a successful one. Students learn verification discipline: every load gets chemical indicators, weekly biological spore tests - because the sterile pack's integrity is proven by the indicator, not the machine's hum.
