Study notes
1 mol of gas at 300 K, 10 atm occupies 2.0 L. Find Z and interpret. Step 1: Z = PV/nRT = 10 × 2.0/(1 × 0.0821 × 300). Step 2: = 20/24.63 = 0.812. Step 3: Z < 1 → attractions dominate; gas compresses more than ideal. Step 4: At much higher P, expect Z to cross 1 as molecular size resists. Single number, full diagnosis.
