Study notes
Patient: Mrs. Sharma, 65, presents with a broken maxillary complete denture. Diagnosis: Midline fracture of the acrylic base due to heavy occlusal force. Treatment: 1. Repair surfaces are roughened with a bur (tapered fissure). 2. A 'dovetail' groove is cut across the fracture line to increase surface area for bonding. 3. The denture is stabilized on the original dental stone cast. 4. Self-cure PMMA resin is applied in a plastic state. 5. Curing is done in a pressure pot at 20 psi for 15 minutes to prevent porosity. Outcome: The denture is polished with a rag wheel and pumice. Follow-up: Checked after 24 hours for pressure points on the mucosa; denture fits perfectly.
