General and Dental Pharmacology · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
Patient: A 7-year-old child presents with initial demineralization (white spot lesions) on the molars. Diagnosis: Early stage caries. Treatment steps: 1. Clean teeth with a rotating rubber cup and pumice. 2. Isolate teeth with cotton rolls. 3. Dry the teeth using an air-water syringe. 4. Apply 5% Sodium Fluoride (NaF) varnish using a disposable applicator brush. 5. Instruct the patient not to eat or drink for 30 minutes to allow the varnish to set. Follow-up: Re-examine after 6 months. Outcome: The enamel becomes harder (remineralized) and the white spots fade or stop growing.
