Study notes
A newborn not breathing at birth is resuscitated — dried, warmed, ventilated. Neonatal resuscitation (dry, warm, position, clear airway, stimulate; bag-mask ventilation if apneic — golden minute) prevents birth asphyxia deaths — the commonest neonatal killer with prematurity and sepsis. IMNCI classifies sick under-5s by danger signs (pink/yellow/green — urgent/referral/home) — pneumonia (fast breathing → amoxicillin), diarrhea (ORS + zinc), malaria (test + ACT), malnutrition (MUAC). The protocol is the pediatrician's substitute — systematic care where specialists are absent.
