Study notes
50 mL water sample needs 10 mL of 0.01M EDTA for hardness. Find ppm CaCO₃. Step 1: 1:1 complex: moles EDTA = 0.01 × 0.010 = 10⁻⁴ mol = moles Ca²⁺+Mg²⁺. Step 2: As CaCO₃: 10⁻⁴ mol × 100 g/mol = 0.01 g = 10 mg. Step 3: In 50 mL → per litre: 10 mg × 20 = 200 mg/L = 200 ppm. Step 4: 200 ppm — moderately hard water!
