Study notes

Theoretical yield of aspirin is 20 g but only 15 g is obtained. The starting salicylic acid sample (25 g) was impure. Find % yield and max % purity. Step 1: % yield = (15/20) × 100 = 75%. Step 2: For purity, pure reactant needed for 20 g theoretical was, say, 18 g. Step 3: % purity = (18/25) × 100 = 72%. Low purity of reactant directly lowers the actual yield.
