Rank CH₃Br, (CH₃)₂CHBr, (CH₃)₃CBr for SN1 and SN2. Step 1: SN1 needs carbocation: 3° (most stable) fastest → (CH₃)₃CBr > (CH₃)₂CHBr > CH₃Br. Step 2: SN2 needs open backside: methyl (least hindered) fastest → reverse order. Step 3: CH₃Br > (CH₃)₂CHBr > (CH₃)₃CBr for SN2. Step 4: Opposite orders — the classic exam question! Memorize both ladders.
