An unknown and standard both show Rf 0.45 in the same TLC run. Same compound? Step 1: Same plate, same solvent, same conditions → comparable. Step 2: Identical Rf suggests same compound — but not proof alone. Step 3: Co-TLC: spot mixture — one spot = same; two spots = different. Step 4: Rf + co-spotting = confident ID!
