Child psychology and behavior management techniques
Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
A 5-year-old screams at the sight of the chair. What is the first treatment? Not the tooth - the fear. Tell-show-do (explain, demonstrate on a finger, then do), desensitization visits, and letting the child signal 'stop' rebuild control. Students learn paediatric dentistry's order: manage behavior first, because no dentistry succeeds in a terrified child - and a good first experience prevents decades of avoidance.
