Study notes
An 8-year-old needs orthodontic evaluation. Why is this the ideal window? Mixed dentition (6-12 years) - growth is active, so skeletal discrepancies can be modified, and erupting teeth guided; waiting until growth completes surrenders the growth-modification option. Students learn timing as treatment: the same malocclusion treated at 8 (functional appliance) vs 18 (surgery) - growth is the orthodontist's free appliance, available only on schedule.
