Study notes
A child's permanent front tooth is knocked out whole. What are the taught first steps? Hold the tooth by the crown (never the root — the ligament cells live there), rinse briefly if dirty (no scrubbing), and replant into the socket immediately if possible; if not, keep it moist in cold milk or the child's cheek pouch and reach a dentist within 60 minutes. Students drill this because the periodontal ligament cells dry out and die quickly — every dry minute reduces the chance the tooth reattaches.
