Implant-supported prostheses: overdentures, fixed implant prosthesis
Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
Why do two implants transform a loose lower denture's retention? A lower denture floats on a mobile ridge with no suction. Two implants with ball or locator attachments give the overdenture mechanical anchor points — it clips on and resists lifting during chewing and speaking, while remaining removable for cleaning. Students learn this as the minimum-implant concept: even two fixtures convert an unstable denture into a functional one.
