Group 17 (halogens): chlorine, HCl, oxoacids of halogens, interhalogen compounds

Study notes
Arrange HOCl, HClO₂, HClO₃, HClO₄ by acid strength and explain. Step 1: More oxygens → more electron withdrawal from O–H. Step 2: The conjugate base's negative charge delocalises over more O atoms. Step 3: Order: HOCl < HClO₂ < HClO₃ < HClO₄. Step 4: HClO₄ (perchloric acid) is one of the strongest acids known!
