Study notes
A 7-year-old has puffy bleeding gums around erupting molars. Why is this usually benign? Eruption gingivitis - the operculum traps plaque during eruption; it resolves as the tooth emerges with hygiene support. Students learn the transient-vs-pathologic split: eruption-associated inflammation passes; persistent generalized disease (especially with attachment loss in teens) triggers aggressive-periodontitis workup - because rare aggressive disease hides among common benign gingivitis.
